ABOUT ME
WHO IS KC?
HIYA, thanks for tuning into KC’s Korner!
At a young age, my ability to sing long before I could talk resulted in vocal lessons at age 4, hip-hop classes at age 6, piano lessons at 9, and encouragement to participate in every single mall talent competition that ever existed. Though my success in the performing arts fulfilled the potential my parents saw in me, at the time it didn’t quite fulfill me in the same way.
It wasn’t until the age of 12, strutting the runway as Princess Ying Yaowalak in “The March of the Siamese Children”, that I knew I wanted to be a performer. Boy-oh-boy did my pre-teen existence on that stage make me feel like the star of the show. Then at age 16, I played my first ever lead role: Sandy in Grease. You bet your sweet sweet ass this brown gal rocked a blonde wig and the signature black leather outfit. Although my acting was absolutely terrible, I’ll toot my own horn thrice that my singing surely made up for that, but don’t call me Shirley. I realized the magic of theatre beyond singing on a bare stage. The art in acting itself was a majestic world on its own, then there’s the creativity and thoughtfulness that goes into costumes, and the talent of consistently working on creating, molding, and playing the stories of characters that enchanted me. I was hooked. It was then I knew that these were the addicting elements that made me discover that I wanted to be submersed in this work for the rest of my life.
10+ years later and I am still riding that high. Even after taking a break to earn my degree in Psychology, my heart clearly felt it still belonged on the stage. Immediately after graduation I went into strict audition mode and ended up booking my first ever professional show with Theatreworks Silicon Valley. This opportunity opened a door to a plethora of opportunities with professional productions (see resume).
I am constantly filled with gratitude and love for what I do, for the career decisions that have helped me grow, and for the opportunities received that I have worked so hard for.
Outside the world of theatre it is important I mention that during my down time, I do enjoy baking, hiking, binging Netflix, dining at various ramen and Korean BBQ joints, boba, and boba. Also boba.
Thank you for stopping by!
Much love,
KC
